Project Description
Megan Welsh Carroll is an Associate Professor of Public Administration and Criminal Justice in the School of Public Affairs at San Diego State University. Trained as a social worker and criminologist, Megan uses her skills as a researcher and educator to advance justice, health equity, and basic dignity for all San Diegans. She conducts research on the criminalization of poverty, the disappearance of basic water, hygiene, and sanitation resources in urban environments, and how we can work toward a shared vision of justice amid climate change and widespread housing affordability crises. In this spirit, she co-founded and directs the Project for Sanitation Justice at SDSU [bathrooms.sdsu.edu]. Megan holds a doctorate in criminal justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the CUNY Graduate Center, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from UC Berkeley and Temple University, respectively.
