Resource Links
MoGo aims to be a community resource for everyone looking to exercise and assert their rights and empower themselves as Community Advocates. Community empowerment is at the heart of everything we do because community empowerment is both the means and the end. The only way to achieve a future where everyone is empowered is to empower every person.
Our work is based on the understanding that all American systems are rooted in white supremacy and racism and, therefore, must be examined and reimagined. We need restructuring – not simply reform – and the restructuring must be led by the community.
This collection of links is a work in progress, generated in response to needs identified by the community.
COVID-19 and Prisons
The Prisoner Advocacy Network (PAN) is a volunteer network of activists, attorneys, legal workers, and law students. Through correspondence, solidarity, co-education, and advocacy, PAN partners with incarcerated people to improve conditions for imprisoned activists and those experiencing grave injustice inside California prisons and to promote accountability of the people and institutions charged with their care.
Compassionate Release
FAMM works on compassionate release and provides assistance to stakeholders, lawmakers interested in improving compassionate release rules and performance. FAMM also houses the Compassionate Release Clearinghouse to ensure that eligible federal prisoners asking the court for release are represented by trained counsel.
Writing Declarations
Declarations are sworn legal statements that are critical in civil cases; they help to support legal filings. If you’ve ever wondered what you can do when government representatives behave unethically or violate your rights, one of the most important actions is to capture the details in writing. This very important action item is actually fairly simple – check out the video and resources below from MoGo’s Community Empowerment Webinar.
Special Education Rights
MoGo executive director Genevieve Jones-Wright moderated a discussion between a panel of education experts addressing the following questions:
- What is an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)?
- What services are schools required to provide?
